Cllr Haughey said, “A concerned parent has raised concern with me about the poor state of the ball nets at the playing field in Acton. I have visited the playing fields myself and agree that the nets are now ‘useless’ as there are so many holes in them.
“I have asked Council officials to replace the ball nets for safety reasons. The original purpose of the nets was to prevent balls from going across the road and to avoid children running out onto the road after a ball. However, the nets are now old and are no longer fit for that purpose.
“I hope Armagh City and District Council will now replace these nets as a matter of urgency as the playing fields are the only recreation facility for children and young people in the area. The playing fields are well used – with young people playing all types of sports there - and it is therefore crucial that these nets are replaced as soon as possible.”
