SDLP Councillor Sharon Haughey has urged people to take care this Halloween, especially those handling fireworks.
Cllr Haughey said, “Halloween should be a fun time for young people but unfortunately reckless behaviour by some makes it a very unpleasant time for elderly people, households with pets and in some cases for young people themselves as there are too many Halloween accidents.
“I would urge all parents not to allow their children to play with fireworks. We all love watching the sparkle and colour of firework displays, and these should be organised by adults and well supervised to ensure that children and young people get to enjoy displays safely.
“Fireworks are not toys and therefore children and young people should not be left to mess around with them.
“I would also urge young people to be mindful of their neighbours, especially the elderly, when out enjoying Halloween. Unfortunately many elderly people find Halloween a terrifying experience and young people should be aware of this and should not cause any hassle or upset this Halloween. “
