Lord Mayor Haughey welcomed Armagh County Hurling Squad, Middletown, Armagh Cúchulainns, and Derrynoose Seniors, U16 and U14s to the Navan Centre to mark all their achievements over recent times.
Speaking at the Navan Centre, Lord Mayor Haughey said, "It’s great to have all successful teams together this evening, especially as we honour Armagh County Hurling team in winning the Nicky Rackard Cup. Armagh Hurling has been going from strength to strength in recent years and the young hurlers here this evening, look up to the county players – you are role models and ambassadors for hurling and for Armagh.
"Congratulations to Armagh Cúchulainns who lifted the Minor Hurling Title, after impressively seeing off Keady. There is no doubt this bodes well for the future of hurling in Armagh City.
"And finally, what a year it has been for St Mochua’s Derrynoose!!! – bringing home a hat trick of Cups with their Senior side winning the Armagh Junior Championship, while both their U16s and U14s brought home the silverware as well. This has been a tremendous success for the rural club and we’re all delighted to see Derrynoose achieve so highly.
"Tonight as our champions come together, I know all of you are an inspiration for hurlers across the county and are a credit to yourselves, your families, your clubs and Armagh County. As First Citizen I take this opportunity to whole heartily congratulate all the teams present and wish you every success in the years ahead."
