SDLP Councillor Sharon Haughey has once again written to Road Service to ask for improvements on the Foley Road in Ballymacnab.
Councillor Haughey said, “I have once again been contacted by residents of Foley Road who are fed up with the poor state of their road. Every day they are driving through potholes and patched-up attempts by Road Service. Residents are sick of getting their cars ruined by the unacceptable standard of the road.
“In recent years, there have been a number of new dwellings built on the Foley Road which has increased the traffic flow but there have been little or no road improvements to reflect this. I have asked Road Service to review safety on the road and in particular at the junction onto the Coolmillish Road.
“This is an issue which I have been lobbying Road Service on for some time now. I believe the road needs to be resurfaced and that would be the most effective way to improve the driving conditions on the road, rather than this patch-work type of improvement that residents have had to endure.
“The Foley Road is a key access to the Seagahan area and I believe if we are really serious about promoting the area to tourists then greater efforts are needed from Government Departments to make the area as attractive as possible. That includes a bigger effort and investment from the Department of Regional Development, to improve the road conditions in this area.”
