SDLP Cusher Councillor Sharon Haughey has welcomed a very positive meeting between key people in statutory organisations to discuss play proposals for Clady.
Speaking after a meeting took place on Friday last, which she organised Cllr Haughey said, “We had a very positive meeting about bringing forward a proposal to deliver play and recreation facilities for children, young people and adults living in the Clady area.
“The meeting was attended by council officials, the head of the Housing Executive in the Armagh district, political representatives and representatives from Clady Residents’ Association.
“A lot of work has already been put in to this project through community consultation in the Clady area through the good work of Gary Loughran and Chair of the Residents Association Michael Clarke, who attended the meeting.
“During the meeting, we discussed all the issues that have been raised by various residents and we hope that this will be the start of the planning towards delivering a much needed recreational and play facility for the rural community, while also taking on board everyone’s view.
“This was an initial meeting to help garner support from Council and the Housing Executive for the proposal and I welcome the commitment and support expressed at that meeting. There is still a long way to go on this issue but I am confident that this work will be successful.
“I now look forward to this plan being progressed and I also welcome that there will be full consultation with the local community on this issue, so that we can deliver something which everyone can be proud of and will make a difference to all residents in the Clady area. Everyone will get their chance to air their views on the proposal and I hope that people will find the proposal a positive plan for the Clady area.”
The SDLP showed strong support for this proposal with MLA Dominic Bradley and Cll Thomas O’Hanlon also in attendance at the meeting.
