Lord Mayor Haughey told the girls, “We are all truly proud of this remarkable set of girls. You have shown, despite your young age, that hard work, determination and ambition is the only way to succeed. And although, you were unfortunate not to bring home the All Ireland title, you are true sportswomen and great role models for other young people who look up to you and are inspired by your achievements.
All Ireland titles are hard to clinch, and we know that only too well here in Armagh and you can look at other great sportsmen and women in this county who have suffered the heartache of defeat at the very highest level but who have returned stronger and more focussed to finally achieve their dreams – look at the minor football team of 1992, many of them picked themselves up from that defeat and continued to follow their dream until they reached the ultimate – an All Ireland medal as part of the Senior team in 2002.
Just like that team, I have no doubt that the set of girls in front of me will go on to achieve highly at minor and senior camogie level – both for your clubs and your county.”
