Prize winners from each of the events were presented with medals by Councillor Sharon Haughey, Lord Mayor of Armagh City and District Council along with Appleby’s very own Special Olympic athlete Ryan Hill who will represent team Ireland at the world games in South Korea in January 2013.
Speaking at the event the Lord Mayor Sharon Haughey said, “I am delighted to attend Appleby’s very special Olympic Games and to meet all those participating in the games. There is no doubt that everyone has really enjoyed the games, in a good competitive and spirited manner. It was a lovely honour for me to award the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to Appleby's Olympic Champions. I also take this opportunity to congratulate the staff at Appleby and Keady Recreation Centre for co-ordinating the games. It is truly a brilliant event.”
Roberta Brownlee, Chair of the Southern Trust who also attended the event said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to be here to congratulate all the service users who took part in the sports events today. Well done to everyone involved and to the staff for organising the sports activities.”
Mark Dorran from Keady Recreational group said “We are pleased to continue our long standing relationship with Appleby and look forward to many years working in partnership with the centre and the Southern Trust.”
