Speaking at the full council meeting on Monday night Cllr Haughey said, “I wish to pay tribute to the Ballymacnab Camogie team who won the County Senior Championship recently. It did break my heart that the ‘nab girls beat my own club St Mary’s Granemore in the final but fair play to the St Brenda’s girls. Their achievements are worthy of a reception by this council.
“I think it’s a tremendous reflection of the strong tradition of Camogie and Gaelic Games in the area when you consider the two county senior finalists came from the one Parish – Cill Chluana. May that tradition long live and I commend the volunteers in both clubs who put so much time and dedication into their clubs."
Mayor Freda Donnelly agreed to host a reception to mark the achievements of the Senior County Camogie Champions in the coming weeks.
