SDLP Councillor Sharon Haughey this week met with a local representative from UK Youth Parliament Corey Sutch, from Richill.
Speaking after the meeting Cllr Haughey said, “It is very important that young people like Corey are encouraged and helped in political life. It is a tremendous achievement for a young Armagh man to be a member of UK Youth Parliament and I wish him every success in the years to come.
“The focus of our meeting was an interview which Corey conducted to find out my party’s views on a number of different issues affecting the north. I was delighted to answer all Corey’s questions and was particularly interested when he gave me an overview of some of the things local young people would like to see in Armagh City and District.
“One proposal which Corey brought forward was the idea of having an ice-rink in Armagh City and I was delighted to inform him that this is something which Armagh Council is already working on and that there will be an ice-rink in the centre of Armagh in the run up to Christmas. Corey was very excited about this and it was really useful to get reaction from a local young person.
“I believe it is very important for young people to get involved in their local communities and to make their voices heard. Being someone who set out at a young age in politics I am always keen to hear the views of local young people and to work with them in delivering on some of their visions and hopes for the future.”
