Speaking after taking part in the parade Cllr Haughey said, “Armagh Council has put a lot into the preparations and organisation of the St Patrick’s celebrations which are lasting all week-long across the City and District.
“St Patrick’s Day in Armagh is back to being what it all should be about – a great day out for all ages especially families. The parade and Music on the Square ensured that the centre of Armagh was alive with excitement, laughter and happiness on this the greatest day in Ireland’s calendar.
“I commend all the council officers involved in organising all the events, their work has helped to ensure that the celebrations have been open and welcoming to the entire community and that is something we all must take pride in and protect in the years ahead.
“I also commend all those who took part in parade – the thousands of spectators who lined the streets could see that a lot of work and effort was put into the floats and costumes – they certainly brought colour, imagination and great noise to the City Centre.
“The performers on stage at Music on the Square went down a treat and its brilliant to see local acts performing on the big stage – we really have some great talent and that should be cherished and promoted at every opportunity.
“I think everyone had a brilliant day in Armagh and I hope that each year the day will get bigger and better in Armagh as word gets out that it really is the place to be for St Patrick’s Day.”
