Speaking ahead of this Thursday’s election Cllr Haughey said, “I hope to retain my seat in the Cusher Ward of Armagh City and District Council. It is very important that we have strong female voices representing local communities at Council level.
“As councillor for the area for the last six years I have worked with many women on a wide variety of issues including: fighting for better allocation of PEAG Pre School Place, lobbying for better provision for affordable rural childcare, pressing government for funding on women’s health issues, supporting the campaign for equal pay for women, and opposing pension age discrimination.
“As a woman councillor I know only too well the challenges facing women, especially those in employment. I find that many women come to me looking representation because they know that I will understand their issues and can provide the best representation for women in a male dominant council chamber.
“I urge all women across Cusher to come out and support me on Thursday. Over the past six years I have shown my commitment and hard work for all people of the Cusher area and I hope to continue that work for another term.”
