Cllr Haughey said, “Its local issues that people are concerned about at the doors and I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet people in their own homes to discuss these issues.
“During my canvass a number of issues relating to the poor state of our roads have been raised with me – including the Canal Bank Road in Poyntzpass, The Newtownhamilton Road at Lislea in Ballymacnab, the Glenbank Road in Mullavilly, the Friary Road in Clady, and the main Markethill to Tandragee Road .
“I have inspected all these roads myself and agree that work is required to upgrade all these roads to bring them up to safety standards. These roads have potholes, the tar has come up on some of these roads during the frost and Department of Regional Development have done nothing about it.
“I have written to Road Service on all these roads giving a breakdown on the particular issues affecting residents living in these areas and I have asked Road Service to take immediate action to resolve all outstanding problems.
“In Canal Bank Road in Poyntzpass, Road Service had previously given me and residents a commitment to carrying out improvements on the road verges, filling out the potholes and general maintenance and upkeep of the road. Since that meeting no work has been completed by Road Service and I am very angry as are residents. I have therefore requested immediate action from DRD on these matters.”
