Cllr Haughey was speaking at the September monthly council meeting, she said, “Before the May elections we held a very useful meeting with parents of children who attended Lisnally Special School in Armagh in relation to their plight to gain access to the hydro pool after their children left the school.
“The issues raised at that meeting have been progressed through council for some time now and I welcome clarification from the Trust that any child or young person whose doctor recommends hydrotherapy will receive it at Craigavon Hospital. I also welcome a commitment from Lisnally and the Trust that the hydro pool can be used in the evening times by the community, however a physiotherapist is required to be in attendance for the therapy to be effective.
“I now request that a meeting is organised with the Post 16 Group to advise parents of the current situation and to highlights council’s support for the campaign. I ask that Community Manager Godfrey McCartney attends this meeting to advise the group on formally organising as a ‘voluntary group’ so that the group can apply for funding to cover the costs of a physiotherapist. I ask that this meeting is arranged as soon as possible as it was May when this issue was first raised with the Council.”
