Cllr Haughey explains, “I have asked Road Service to implement school road safety measures at St Josephs and St James Primary School in Poyntzpass. The school is situated at the bottom of a hill and is proving to be quite dangerous with heavy traffic on the road, especially when the area becomes congested at bus times.
“I have asked Road Service to erect the school safety warning signs which are solar powered to heighten the awareness of drivers at crucial times of the day, that is, school start and finish.
“I have also recommended that the red raised lines are put on the road surface to slow traffic down.
“I appreciate that some time ago Road Service did take steps to erect signs and slow markings after I held a meeting onsite with Road Service officials, however I believe these measures need to be complimented with further safety measures.
“I hope Road Service will look positively respond to this request and implement new safety measures over the summer period in time for September.”
